Photography Exhibition Brasília 50 Anos
June 15th, 2010 by Camillo Righini
The Fine Art Gallery A Casa da Luz Vermelha has recently asked me to design the catalog of the exhibition Brasília 50 anos. The exhibition shows works of the photographers Anderson Schneider, Cristiano Mascaro, Dorival Moreira, Salomon Cytrynowicz and Sérgio Jorge and talks about historical aspects of the city. Curatorship by Rosely Nakagawa.

The project is an example of how materials, scale, texture and the use of empty spaces on each page can interfere in the perception of images and text. The first attraction point is the optical illusion caused by the cover’s image. The pattern draws typographic shapes that say Brasília 50 anos (Brasília 50 years) by the contrasty combination of various corners of black straight lines on intense red background. The spine is covered by a heavy texturized non-coated black paper and stuck on the catalog by two flat metallic screws.

The variation of each line’s thickness creates the lightning effect.
